audio post production house in auckland, nz
Native has been at the heart of NZ’s audio scene for over 30 years. From auspicious beginnings as Airforce, the recording studio where some of our fine nation’s cult records were cut, Native has shape-shifted through many life stages to emerge as the state of the art audio post facility it is today. A unique offering combining experience, award-winning creativity, the latest technology and some nice old rugs, we’ve collaborated with some of the finest film, TV and gaming talent around. Want your next project to share an audio birthing suite with hit kiwi single ‘Melting Pot’? Give us a shout, we’d love to hear from you.
Greg Junovich - Managing Director, Sound Supervisor. With nearly two decades' experience overseeing audio projects across film, TV, music and gaming, including major blockbusters and award-winning productions, Greg has gathered an impressive credit list. His expertise extends across logistics, sound editorial, foreign language dubbing, ADR and re-recording mixing. Greg was a key member in the development of VoiceQ, an ADR and dubbing software application that received the Hollywood Post Alliance Special Recognition award in 2007. He is currently a consultant to Kiwa Digital. While outside the padded studio walls, Greg can be found raising two under-fives, swearing at failed sourdough attempts, over smoking brisket, speaking bad German and getting out and about in NZ’s amazing backyard as much as possible.
Nick Buckton - Head of Sound, Supervising Sound Editor, Sound Designer, Re-recording Mixer. Having started his career 25 years ago at Native Audio, Nick is now regarded as one of NZ’s most exciting creative forces in film and television sound. Recent credits include feature films Shadow in the Cloud, Savage, Guns Akimbo, Daffodils, The Dark Horse and hit Netflix series Dark Tourist. Upcoming projects also include the much anticipated film Pike River, based on the 2010 Pike River Mine tragedy in which 29 miners lost their lives after an explosion at the mine. Fiercely committed to establishing a relationship with the film maker to ensure their vision is served, Nick is known for his dedication to each and every project. Nick is a member of indie rock heroes Voom, and also releases his own music as sidekicknick. He has contributed numerous tracks to films, tv shows and commercials, and scored several short films and a feature documentary. When he’s not making or shaping noise, he’s helping raise his ten year old son, growing vegetables, and binge watching test match cricket.
Jordan Smith - Sound Editor and Re-recording Mixer. Jordan has been a key member of the Native team for almost a decade. His talents as a dialogue editor, sound editor, ADR mixer and re-recordist have had him work with a diverse range of genres and forms, from experience installations and video games to factual TV and feature films, both in New Zealand and Canada. Jordan's skills extend far beyond his creative and technical nous. An excellent communicator and collaborator, his friendly approach to talent and creatives is one of Jordan’s great strengths.
Ariana Mirus - Senior Audio Post-Producer, ADR Post Producer. Ari has been a part of the Native team for over three years as our in-house studio Producer. She is an Auckland based Producer with a decade's worth of experience working across both local and international film and television productions. She’s worked with a number of local and international production companies including Disney, Netflix, Paramount, WarnerBros Discovery, Amazon, and independent producers. After wrapping on season 1 of Rings of Power, she joined our team as the in-house Audio Post Producer and we have never looked back. Ari is passionate about working with people, helping pull together the resources needed to achieve their creative vision. When not breaking down schedules or wrangling content, Ari is looking after her veggie patches, giggling with her nieces and nephews or hanging with her husband and their cat Diago.
Alex Karehana - Junior Sound Editor. Alex has been a part of the Native team for over a year now. Joining the team after finishing off his Bachelor’s Degree in Music, majoring in composition, Alex has jumped in head first into the fast paced world of audio post production. He has gained crucial skills in Pro Tools, file management, session records, series editing, foley editing & recording. He has been a part of a number of projects including Pūkana, Kea Kids News, S02 Rūrangi: Rising Lights, Creamerie S02, live recordings, podcast recordings, and many more upcoming for release in 2024.
James Bryant - Freelance Sound Editor. James has been one of Native’s most regular freelancers since returning to Aotearoa, following a seven-year stint working in the UK. James learned the ropes in the fast-paced world of advertising at one of NZ’s largest ad agencies, later working on the development of global campaigns in the creative hub of London. He thrives on working together with client teams and creative talent, fostering a collaborative process to achieve results that delight. Beyond the 30-second commercial, James has worked on almost every kind of content that makes a noise, including VR experiences, TV, short and feature films, and once a viral comedy sketch which made headlines in Latvia.
Katalina Chung - Audio Post Producer. Katalina became an integral part of the Native team during one of our busiest seasons in 2024, quickly adapting to the fast-paced world of audio post. With a strong background in production, she hit the ground running—taking on every challenge with confidence and precision. As the welcoming face at our front of house, she ensures every client feels looked after from the moment they step into the studio. Her growing portfolio includes work on Moana 2 (te reo Māori), Shrek (te reo Māori), Madam, and the upcoming Romcom/Horror film Heart Eyes. Outside the studio, Katalina spends most of her free time obsessing over A24 films, spending quality time with her whānau and friends, and getting overly competitive at just about anything.
