In 1954 New Zealand, Nellie, Daisy and Lou are sent off to a remote island where they must attend an institution for delinquent girls. Run by a devout matron, the fiery trio must use the strength of their friendship to fight against a system that seeks to control them. 

Written by Maddie Dai and Josephine Stewart-Te Whiu, and led by a cast and crew of thrilling new Aotearoa filmmaking talent, We Were Dangerous will premiere in New Zealand on opening night of NZIFF in August 2024.

We Were Dangerous was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize and won the prestigious Special Jury Prize at SXSW 2024.
